Choosing a WA sales or property management registration pathway

WA has three sales representative registration pathways: sales transactions, property management transactions, or unrestricted registration covering both. Choose a course whose units match the pathway you need.

Three options appear on the regulator’s page

WA’s official registration guide lists the three pathways and explains that representatives work under supervision. “Unrestricted” in this setting means sales and property management scope; it does not mean permission to run an agency independently. WA registration pathways

This is a helpful place to begin if you have been comparing course names. A provider may market a course around a job title, while your legal permission appears as a registration condition. You need both descriptions to line up.

Match the choice to an ordinary working week

Think about the tasks you want to learn. Would you prefer helping sellers and buyers through a sale, or working with owners and tenants over the life of a tenancy? If you hope to move between both areas, ask what an unrestricted pathway would involve.

You do not need to predict your whole career before enrolling. You do need to understand the scope of the first role. Ask an employer to describe the duties, then compare them with the regulator’s scope-of-work guidance. Permitted representative work

Check the full unit map

The application page sets out qualification pathways and bridging arrangements for some people moving from restricted to unrestricted registration. Ask for the exact unit codes that apply to your previous training and intended change. Application and qualification pathways

Some wording in that page’s summary is internally inconsistent about unit totals. Rather than repeat a confusing figure, seek written confirmation from Consumer Protection and the RTO. A count on its own is not enough to establish that a course fits your pathway.

This is also a reason to keep copies of your statement of attainment. If you add a new area of work later, a clear unit record helps the provider explain what remains.

Plan for the permission, not just the course

Completing study does not itself grant registration. Check application documents, current fees and any conditions before agreeing to begin regulated work. If you studied interstate, ask whether you need a local qualification assessment or a recognition pathway.

What still needs checking

  • No personal eligibility or provider quality is determined. Check your own records and the current official requirements.

A useful next step

Use the WA sales and property management pathway guide to compare the three scopes and prepare a written unit-matching question for your provider.
